Covid-19 Watch: 2,491 new cases, says Health Ministry


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,491 new Covid-19 infections on Saturday (Aug 27), says the Health Ministry.

The Health Ministry said through data released on its CovidNow portal on Saturday that this brings the new total to 4,774,003 cases since the pandemic began.

All 2,491 were local and no imported cases were reported.

The CovidNow portal also said that there were 3,715 recoveries on Saturday, bringing the total number of active cases in Malaysia to 34,508.

Of the active cases, 33,090 individuals or 95.9% are undergoing home quarantine, while 22 people were being treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC).

Only 3.8% of active cases or 1,324 individuals needed to be hospitalised, with 72 warded in intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country.

Of that number, 23 required ventilator support.

A total of five deaths were recorded on SAturday with one classified as being brought in dead, bringing the total to 36,196.
